Clear terms for online booking and pickup balance
When you book a vehicle through 4Drive Austria, you pay a booking advance online by card. This advance secures your reservation and confirms the dates. Cash cannot be accepted for online transactions. The system processes card payments immediately, and you receive a voucher by email within minutes.
The remaining balance is due when you collect the vehicle. The voucher specifies the amount and which payment methods the local company accepts for that particular vehicle. Some vehicles allow debit card or cash for the balance, others require a credit card. Check the listing and your voucher before you travel.
For the online booking advance, 4Drive Austria accepts the following card types. All transactions run through a secure payment gateway, and your details are encrypted during transmission.
The local company collects the balance when you sign the agreement and receive the keys. Each vehicle listing on our site shows which payment methods that specific car accepts: debit card, cash, or credit card. The requirement is tied to the individual vehicle, not to a category or class.
If the voucher states "debit card or cash accepted," you can hand over euro notes or use a debit card at the counter. If it specifies "credit card required," bring a valid credit card in the driver's name. Some premium or larger vehicles require a credit card for both the balance and any security hold. Always read the terms in your booking confirmation.
Currency at pickup is always EUR. Exchange rates applied by your card issuer determine the final charge in your home currency. ATMs are plentiful across Austria if you choose to pay the balance in cash and the vehicle permits it.
Many vehicles in our system carry a "No Deposit" or "No Credit Card Required" label. That label tells you two separate things: the local company will not place a security hold on your card, and you do not need a credit card to collect the vehicle. These are independent parameters.
A no-deposit offer does not alter the excess amount stated in the damage waiver. If an incident occurs, you remain liable up to the excess specified in the contract. The absence of a security hold simply means no temporary block is placed on your card funds during the hire period.
If you do not own a credit card and a vehicle requires one for a security hold, consider raising the spending limit on your debit card before you travel. Many banks allow temporary limit increases through their app or customer service line. Check the vehicle's payment requirements during booking so you arrive prepared.
When a vehicle does require a security hold, the amount and the refund timeline appear in the listing, the booking summary, and your voucher. The local company processes the hold and the subsequent release. Most holds are reversed within seven to fourteen days after you return the vehicle, though the exact timing depends on the company's bank and your card issuer.
If damage or a traffic fine is recorded, the company deducts the relevant sum from the held amount before releasing the remainder. Disputes over deductions are handled directly with the local company whose contact details are printed on your voucher and the signed agreement.
Cancellation terms vary by vehicle and supplier. Many bookings include free cancellation up to a certain number of hours before pickup; others may carry a cancellation fee. The exact policy is shown during checkout and repeated in your voucher.
If you cancel within the free-cancellation window, the booking advance is refunded to the card you used within five to ten business days. If you cancel outside that window, any applicable fee is deducted and the remainder returned. To request a cancellation, visit the contact page or reply to your voucher email with your booking reference.
Refunds follow the same route as the original payment. We cannot redirect a refund to a different card or issue it as cash. For questions about refund status, email [email protected] with your booking number.
All card transactions pass through an encrypted payment form that meets industry security standards. 4Drive Austria does not store your full card number, CVV, or PIN. Once the payment gateway confirms the charge, only a masked reference is kept in our records for support purposes.
Your card statement will show the charge from our payment processor, typically within one business day of booking. If you notice an unfamiliar transaction, check your voucher first; the descriptor may differ slightly from "4Drive Austria." For billing queries, contact us at [email protected] or review the terms and conditions page.
We recommend using cards that offer fraud protection and notifying your bank before you travel so legitimate charges are not flagged. Two-factor authentication may be triggered during checkout; keep your phone handy to approve the payment.
No. Online bookings require a card payment. The advance is processed immediately by card through our secure gateway. Cash can only be used for the balance at pickup if the specific vehicle permits it.
Bring the card you used for the online advance, plus any additional card specified in your voucher. If the vehicle requires a credit card for the balance or a security hold, that requirement is printed in the booking terms and the voucher.
No. The two are independent. No deposit means the company does not place a temporary hold on your card. The damage waiver excess remains as stated in the contract, and you are liable up to that amount if an incident occurs.
Refund timelines are set by the local company and appear in your voucher. Most security holds are released within seven to fourteen days after you return the vehicle, though your bank may take additional days to show the credit.
No. Refunds return to the card used for the original payment. If that card has expired, contact your bank; they typically route the credit to your new card automatically. We cannot redirect refunds to another account.
